About
Welcome to The Place Activity Centre in the heart of Sherwood.
The Place has been serving the community of Sherwood and beyond for seventeen years.
We’re a vibrant, inclusive hub for the whole community.
With a variety of activities ranging from art to fitness, we offer a unique opportunity for people of all ages to engage in creative, social and educational pursuits.
Whether you’re looking to discover a new talent, stay active, or simply enjoy the company of others, we’re the perfect place for you to explore your passions and connect with the community!
The building was originally the social club for the workers of the bus depot, a building that was completed in 1901 as the tram depot. When the bus depot closed in 1997 the social club became The Place, whilst another portion of the depot became a Wetherspoons pub, and the remainder retained a role in the maintenance of buses.
Save the place
The Place Activity Centre, Sherwood, is under threat unsustainable rent increses by Nottingham City Council; from a £10 per year discretionary rent to £12,000 per year rising to £20,000 over the next 4 years. The Place operates on a non-profit basis and is considered a vital arts and wellbeing centre for the Sherwood community.
We believe Nottingham City Council should continue to support The Place Activity Centre, not just financially, in its attempt to stay open, but to thrive as a successful community hub, offering a diverse range of vital services which benefits the people and small businesses of Sherwood. And we encourage the local community to support us in our campaign to Save The Place
